What happens when you remove the oxide layer of the sodium and then put that piece of sodium in water or ethanol? What is the difference between slaked lime and limestone? How can we tell if a metal plate is made of zinc or lead? Students can easily be given such questions during their advanced level chemistry exam. Available now on the website of the Colourful Chemistry, a collection of seventy-two exercises and their solutions is just the right tool when you have to find the answer to similar problems with a practical approach. The material was created by dr Edina Kiss, professor of Eötvös Loránd University; the exercises are linked to sixty-nine experiments (they can be easily looked up based on their number next to the exercise’s number). For four years, the worksheets have been used within a special project to motivate disadvantaged youths to go on to higher education. The worksheets have proved to be extremely popular with both students and teachers, which is why the author and the consultants decided to make the material available to the wider public. Just like with any other content of the Colourful Chemistry, with this material our common goal is to help as many people as possible to gain a deeper understanding of chemistry and to successfully prepare for their graduation.
Launched more than a year ago, the Colourful Chemistry platform offers free and useful knowledge for everyone who is studying for their final exams.  The platform features materials that covers the entire secondary school curriculum in chemistry and are explained by university lecturers who also solve some  typical exercises that students may encounter in the exam. With these recently published sample tests we hope to help many students so that they can pass their school-leaving exams successfully. Colourful Chemistry is part of our award-winning #chemistryforall initiative to promote science, especially chemistry.
