István Bebes, Mayor of Körmend and István Király, the Director of Egis’ production site in Körmend took part in the ceremonial event, during which fourteen flowering cherry trees were planted.
The tree planting took place on 28 October, on a day - as István Bebes highlighted – that holds a special meaning for Körmend and has been the Day of the Town since 1994. There are two momentous events related to this date: the letters patent issued by King Béla IV (reigned between 1235-1270) and given to the town was dated on 28 October 1244, while dr László Batthyány-Strattmann, also known as Doctor of the Poor, was also born on 28 October (1870). He lived in his family’s castle in Körmend from 1915 until his death in 1931.
At the tree planting event István Király, Director of the Körmend production site represented Egis that celebrates its 110th anniversary this year. He recounted that since the establishment of the plant in Körmend many ties have been formed between the company and the town. Egis has supported numerous local initiatives over the past fifty years and collaborations have often led to success for both parties.
For a company to last and thrive over 110 years two things are vital. Firstly, it should not forget its roots, traditions, values. Secondly, it should be able to reinvent itself and respond to emerging challenges. This is the reason we are planting trees on this round-number anniversary - said István Király.

At Rákóczi út 79/1.-89 a dedicated sign informs passers-by about the urban beautification project initiated jointly by Egis and the town of Körmend.
