Dr István Hodász receives the “Dr Orbán István recognition medallion”

Established by the Hungarian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers` Association (MAGYOSZ) in 2009, the Dr István Orbán medallion recognizes outstanding contribution to the development of the Hungarian pharma industry. The medallion was named after Dr István Orbán, the founder and former president of the Association. This year the medallion was presented to dr István Hodász, the previous CEO of our company.

Dr István Orbán was a notable and emblematic figure in the history of MAGYOSZ, but he had much stronger ties with Egis:  till 2006, for more than a quarter of a century, he was the CEO of our company. So far three Egis' employees have been awarded the commemorative medal named after Mr. István Orbán: György Mihályi, retired Deputy CEO and László Marosffy, retired CFO received the award in 2013, while in 2015, the medallion was given to Attila Mandy posthumously. This year dr István Hodász became the fourth Egis-employee to be presented with the prestigious professional award.

Dr István Hodász has been in the pharma industry since the early nineties. He started his career at GlaxoSmithKline’s Hungarian representation, then he worked for Sanofi and its predecessors. In 2006, he joined Egis in the position of Commercial Director, from October 2009 till March 2022 he held the office of CEO of the company.

In 2016, he was elected President of MAGYOSZ, he held this position for a year. During his presidency he worked primarily for a stronger cooperation between the players of the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry and to increase their negotiating power so that the Hungarian government considered the domestic pharmaceutical industry as national strategic sector. He strongly supported the introduction of the Hungarian Medicines Trademark to provide doctors, pharmacists, and patients with a credible source of information on products developed and manufactured in Hungary. In October 2020, Dr István Hodász was granted the award “For the Hungarian Economy” for his outstanding work conducted for the benefit of the Hungarian economy. The award is the most prestigious recognition that can be given by the Minister of Finance.
