The organisers presented the programmes of the Researchers' Night at a press conference held at Millenáris. Egis is one of the supporters of the initiative, our company’s HR and Communications Director, dr Klára András also gave a welcome speech at the press conference. She pointed out that by its very nature, the pharmaceutical industry is characterised by continuous development, therefore research is inseparable from the activities of a pharma company.
That's why it is particularly important for Egis that an increasing number of students take an interest in natural sciences, especially in chemistry, as the future chemists and pharmacists are still at school - said dr Klára András.
It shows our commitment to the cause, that we will be offering programmes at two locations during the event.  At the Faculty of Sciences of Eötvös Loránd University anyone is welcome who - by using some virtual tools - would like to have an insight into the pharmaceutical industry, learn about the pharmaceutical manufacturing processes that take place in facilities not open to the general public. They can observe how active ingredients are manufactured, what happens in the tableting plant, and how the products seen on the shelves in pharmacies are packaged. Courageous visitors have the opportunity to conduct spectacular experiments in a virtual world: they can simulate a mini volcanic eruption by using chemical reactions, learn how an ammonia fountain works or in an ordinary flowerpot generate an exothermic reaction so intense that it even melts iron.
For secondary school students who are already more seriously engaged in chemistry, Researchers' Night and Egis have organised a special, practical chemistry competition. In the spring, in the first round the participating teams had to answer questions about e.g., green chemistry or fuel cell power generation. The final will be held on 30 September at the Egis Science and Technology Centre (ESTC), followed by a guided tour of Centre offering an overview of our company's activities.
